WORKING METHOD
The residency is organised around sustained exchange rather than one-way instruction. Participants bring projects situated within particular musical cultures, media environments, professional conditions, and questions. The group establishes conditions under which those projects can be examined with rigour, generosity, and conceptual precision.
Presentation and discussion may draw on published texts, drafts, recordings, interviews, notebooks, podcasts, broadcasts, video essays, editorial plans, archives, data, correspondence, or hybrid forms. No medium is privileged as the default form of journalistic evidence. Materials are considered in relation to the questions they raise, the publics they address, and the understanding they make possible.
Participants will define terms, identify assumptions, clarify relations between evidence and claim, and distinguish journalistic aims from the means through which they are pursued. Discussion attends not only to what a project communicates, but also to how its premises are embodied in language, structure, voice, sources, medium, editorial context, and circulation.
Critical engagement is constructive. Feedback should neither simply affirm a project nor reduce it to line editing, marketability, or personal agreement. It should reveal the consequences of choices, identify tensions between claims and methods, locate unexamined assumptions, and open viable paths for development. Participants are expected to respond to others with the seriousness they expect for their own work.
The inquiry is intentionally plural. Its purpose is not stylistic consensus, adherence to one philosophical tradition, or the subordination of journalism to theory. Productive disagreement, methodological difference, and conceptual tension are necessary conditions of collective research.
